Poi leaf has a slightly crunchy texture and tastes like lemon and pepper when consumed raw. When cooked, it tastes similar to spinach but the texture is denser. Common application includes salad, stir-fry, and stew. Poi leaf is a popular ingredient in Indian and Southeast Asian cuisines. Poi leaf is available from early summer throughout the wintertime.
