Storage
- Hothouse cucumber should be stored at 50ºF - 54ºF (10ºC - 12.5ºC) with a relative humidity of ninety-five percent and periodic mist.
- The typical shelf life is less than fourteen days. High humidity is important to avoid shriveling.
- Hothouse cucumber is very sensitive to ethylene, a naturally occurring gas that regulates ripening. Hothouse cucumbers should not be stored with high ethylene-producing products to extend shelf life and avoid yellowing and decay. Hothouse cucumber produces a low level of ethylene.
- Hothouse cucumber is sensitive to chilling injury after two or three days of storage at below 50ºF (10ºC). Symptoms include yellowing, softening, and pitting. Development of chilling injury symptoms can be avoided if used immediately after removal from storage.
