  • Hothouse cucumbers are more uniformly shaped than regular cucumbers and have an appealing green color. It is typically individually wrapped. It has small tender seeds with a refreshing mild flavor and crunchy texture. Hothouse cucumber is usually used in salads and sandwiches. Hothouse cucumber is available year-round.

  • Hothouse cucumber is firm without blemishes and soft spots.
  • A uniform dark green color skin with no signs of yellowing.
Storage
  • Hothouse cucumber should be stored at 50ºF - 54ºF (10ºC - 12.5ºC) with a relative humidity of ninety-five percent and periodic mist.
  • The typical shelf life is less than fourteen days. High humidity is important to avoid shriveling.
  • Hothouse cucumber is very sensitive to ethylene, a naturally occurring gas that regulates ripening. Hothouse cucumbers should not be stored with high ethylene-producing products to extend shelf life and avoid yellowing and decay. Hothouse cucumber produces a low level of ethylene.
  • Hothouse cucumber is sensitive to chilling injury after two or three days of storage at below 50ºF (10ºC). Symptoms include yellowing, softening, and pitting. Development of chilling injury symptoms can be avoided if used immediately after removal from storage.
